Holy Stone HS110D FPV Review

The Holy Stone HS110D FPV is a small drone. It does not need to be registered with the FAA and the best thing yet is that this drone makes it easy for you to take awesome photographs and videos of your family. Just one in a long line of impressive drones, does it meet the expectations of the user? Yes and no. Yes because when you buy it for hobbyist use, it will more than fulfill all of your needs. However, for professional use, this drone has its short flight time working against it. Is this truly the best drone under 200? You can explore the features in this Holy Stone HS110D review.

Holy Stone HS110D features and technical details

Starting with the physical features, this drone measures approximately 30 by 30 by 6 cm. That is small, unlike the preceding HS100, which was quite big. This small size makes this a very portable drone, and you do not need to register it with the FAA. Weighing only 108 grams, that is easy enough to carry around in a small carry case, when you want to go and fly it in the park. It is a spanking good-looking drone too, with its white rotors set against the black body.

A camera drone like this one sets store by the camera. This one can take nice HD videos at a resolution of 1280 by 720P. A 2MP camera takes high quality still photos. If you pair this drone with your smartphone, you will be able to stream video live. If you pair the drone with your smartphone, you will get a nice FPV – first person view so that you can see where the drone is going in real time. You will also be able to share your videos and photos in real time over your social media networks. With a wide angle of view at 120 degrees, this drone can see pretty well ahead and on the sides. To store all of your videos and photos before you can transfer them to other storage, the HS110D is sold with a 4GB microSD card.

This drone has different flight modes, but the one that you will find most exhilarating without doubt is the automatic altitude hold, which is activated as soon as you free the left joystick on the controller. The drone will hold the altitude at which you release the joystick, hovering and taking your pictures from all angles.

Even if this is one of the most affordable drones in the market, it still incorporates a return to home feature. This means that your drone will never be lost even when you are flying it in the park because when the battery drains to a certain percentage, it will automatically initiate return to the person holding the controller.

Advanced pilots will enjoy the four-speed choices as well as features like the headless mode, which lets the drone follow you without you having to worry where it is. Beginner pilots should love the one button take off and landings which actually make this drone to have the shortest learning curve in the market.

For the battery and flight time, the drone comes with one 3.7V 650mAh lithium polymer battery. It takes about 60 minutes to charge this battery to full, and the flight time is 7 to 9 minutes give or take a little. To increase your flight time, you can buy a second or even third battery. The flight range is about 120 meters and the video transmission range is 50 meters maximum.

For the best experience, fly this drone indoors. You can even fly it at night as it has guiding LED lights.

Short summary of feedback from existing owners

I bought this small drone for my son on his 16th birthday and so far I have been very pleased with it. It is not easy to please a teenager but this drone worked wonders. We fly it together in the yard. Ruby O.

I can only get 7 minutes out of the battery and please note, I do not do flips, nor do I fly this drone in windy conditions. I solved this by buying two extra batteries and keeping them charged all the time. I think it is the best drone under 200. Robert T.

Is it just me or does this drone heat up after flying for a full 9 minutes? I prefer to let it rest between flight times as I have a second battery. I have contacted the manufacturer about this but they have not gotten back to me. Tess B.

I bought this drone for one purpose only – to take family photos and videos when we go to the beach, for picnics and stuff. So far, it has been a doing a perfect job for me and I am very happy with. It will not take 4K videos and photos, but I knew that and I am pleased with what it can do. Rory L.

Short flight time – I can only coax 7 minutes out of the drone. I also find the app connection a bit woozy especially with distance. But then, it is small and affordable so I bet it would be unfair to expect the same features as I would get from the Holy Stone big boys. Allain N.

Pros of Holy Stone HS110D

  • Has a fairly accurate battery indicator within the app
  • Good for indoor flights
  • It is affordable
  • It is easy to use for beginners
  • Packs good features for advanced pilots
  • An fly in headless mode, in the direction of the control
  • Altitude hold function is very good
  • Lightweight, good for traveling

Cons of Holy Stone HS110D

  • Battery charge drains fast
  • Connection can be a bit flimsy

Who should buy the Holy Stone HS110D drone?

Beginner pilots will find this drone a marvel to own and fly. It is actually very good for learning to fly and then as you get more into it, you can get a bigger drone with more advanced features. However, that does not mean that this drone lacks some good advanced features for advanced pilots because it has. Therefore, anyone can buy this drone, but if you are a professional photographer/videographer, perhaps you had better look for another drone.

Conclusion and recommendation

Good camera for its price range, storage in a 4GB card that is provided, different flight modes like headless mode, FPV and altitude hold. Four speed choices and many more features …what is not to like about this drone? There is only one problem though – the short flight time that you will get out of the battery. However, there is a way around that, just buy a second, or even a third battery. If you are looking for the best drone under 200, the HS110 FPV is your baby.

DJI Inspire 2 Drone Review

DJI Inspire 2 Drone Review – Best Professional Drone for Sale

There is no better way to put a camera in the air, for professional photos than by using the DJI Inspire 2 Drone. Let’s face it, DJI is one of the best names in the drones industry. One edition after another of small hobbyist and big commercial drones and… they have never disappointed.

Just like its brother the first Inspire that was made for professional filmmakers, this one too is incredibly equipped with everything that you will need to take your photography and filmography to a higher level. It is called the Inspire 2 because it is equipped with almost 2 of everything, as you will see in this DJI Inspire 2 drone review.

DJI Inspire 2 Features & Technical Details

One thing that you will notice about the Inspire 2 if you used the first Inspire is that in place of the plastic body, the 2 now comes with a magnesium aluminum alloy body. This tough body makes the drone hardy enough to withstand a few abuses, crashes and drops here and there.

In addition, the four arms that hold the rotors are made of high quality carbon fiber, which also can withstand a lot of outdoor abuse. The propellers have been designed with a locking mechanism that ensures they will never come off accidentally. Clearly, this drone will get through a crash without a scathe mark showing on its body.

The tough body notwithstanding, DJI has also gone ahead to include some incredible measures in the drone. For example, they have installed an advanced crash avoidance system that can detect obstacles 30 meters ahead! This is very commendable especially since this fast drone can do a speed of 93km/h.

With infrared scanners and sensors positioned in an upward-facing position and able to sense obstacles/objects that are 5 meters above the drone, terrain sensors at the bottom, the DJI Inspire 2 is without doubt one of the safest drones in the market.

When it comes to the camera, you will see why we said this drone is called the Inspire 2 because it packs almost everything in twos. For example, it has two cameras. The first camera is a forward facing FPV – first person view camera that is positioned between the two front sensors.

This one allows the pilot flying the drone to see what is ahead of them through their smartphone. The second camera is a detachable Zenmuse camera that you can upgrade if you want. This is a good thing because certain jobs may require different types of lenses.

Since this drone is sold with the Zenmuse X5S camera, which packs quite a punch, you will find it very good for professional photography and filmography. It has a bigger sensor so it can capture more color and other details.

While many other drones only do 4K videos, this one can do 5.2K at 30 fps, but it can also do 4K at 60 fps. This is a power combination that can make Steven Spielberg go woozy. The 20 megapixel stills are incredible.

The first camera is integrated with 2-axis gimbal while the second detachable camera is integrated with a 3-axis gimbal that allows it to shoot stable images and videos even at high speed without affecting the quality. The second camera can also rotate at 360 degrees, giving you not only the widest angle of view, but all angles of view.

For storage of your video footage, the DJI Inspire 2 will use the DJI CINESSD and/or a microSD card.

Please note: This drone is not sold with any standard camera. There are different Zenmuse cameras for different prices.

You must be wondering what kind of batteries this drone comes with, enough to power all these sensors, cameras and the fast flight speed. Well, you will not be disappointed because this baby is sold with two batteries.

You will get 27 minutes of flight time, but mostly when you are flying around obstacles, with all the countermeasures engaged, you can expect 23 to 25 minutes of flight time. When the battery drains to 10 percent, the drone is going to engage emergency landing procedures and start returning home.

The charging time is about 2 hours, quite long, but you should love the charging dock that can take four batteries and charge them at once. You can buy extra batteries to increase your flight time tremendously, and you will enjoy every moment of it.

The top speed for the DJI Inspire 2 drone is 58mph/93kmh. That is quite high and impressive, and that is why professional filmmakers use this drone to film fast moving objects like cars and animals. In addition to high speed flights, this drone also packs many flight features and modes which include Active Track, WayPoint, TapFly and Point of Interest to name but just a few of them.

We could rattle on and on about it features, but it would not be possible to discuss all of them here. We sought the thoughts of other users and here is what they had to say:

Short Summary of Feedback From Existing Owners

I love this drone. If you ask me, it really looks burly, rugged, masculine and handsome. I believe my thousands of dollars were not wasted. It’s big! Kendall Q.

I had a little problem that I wanted assistance for from the manufacturer, but their customer support sucks. I gave up after three emails went unanswered and my husband fixed the problem. I wonder how someone could make such a good drone, give a warranty on it and fail to respond to customer inquiries. Apart from that, I would not give this baby up for anything. Isabella W.

I am a professional documentary maker and this drone was the game changer for me. The ability to shoot 5.2K videos sold it to me. I love the quality of its videos, but I am a bit disappointed with the flight time. William K.

I upgraded to the Inspire 2 from the first one late 2016. Two years later, I think this is the best gift that I ever gave myself for my YouTube channel. It has been an awesome two years without experiencing a problem. Mason T.

Pros of DJI Inspire 2 Drone

  • Fastest mass production drone in the market
  • Incredible camera work
  • Charging dock can take four batteries
  • Automatic return to home for when the battery drains down
  • Drone itself rotates when the gimbal reaches its widest angle
  • High quality build for durability

Cons of DJI Inspire 2 Drone

  • No built-in LCD screen, you still have to attach your smartphone to the controller
  • It’s a pricey drone

Who Should Buy the DJI Inspire 2 Drone?

It is too advanced and too pricey for a hobbyist drone, therefore we would recommend this one for professional users alone. They will get the full value of their money fast and let’s face it, to buy such power and feature package and not use everything is almost the same as caging a beast. If you are a car or motorbike reviewer on YouTube or for your blog, this is the perfect drone for you to cover high-speed chases. At a speed of 93km/h, you know they do not come any faster than that.

Conclusion and Recommendation

The incredible camera, power features, flight modes, speed and good flight time make this expensive drone worth every penny that you can pay for it. You will be pleased with the many countermeasures included in this ruggedly handsome drone. You will never lose it, thanks to the return to home automatic mode, which turns on as soon as the battery drains to a certain percentage. If you are a professional user, buy this drone and you will be a long time before you go back to the market to buy another one.

DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 Review

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is an upgrade of the DJI Phantom 4 Pro. Some reviews say that it is better to wait for the Phantom 5 if you already have the Phantom 4 Pro, but then you will be missing on many improvements that this baby comes with. While the Pro 4 was and still is a very impressive drone, new propulsion and transmission system has been added to the V2.0, and it makes transmission between the drone and your DJI goggles (which you buy separately) seamless. Things like the camera remain unchanged. Phantom enthusiasts who know a good drone cannot afford to not have this one in their collection.

DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 Features & Technical Details

This drone looks very much like the 4 Pro and it measures 15.7 by 9.9 by 6.8 inches. It weighs a meager 3 pounds, making it a good drone for traveling, as it won’t add all that extra weight. It has been constructed with titanium and magnesium alloys making it quite a hardy drone, yet very light in weight.

One of the most outstanding features is the OcuSync transmission system that will connect seamlessly to the DJI Goggles. This technology connects seamlessly through the 2.4GHz or the 5.8GHz . The predecessor came with Lightbridge technology that also can switch between the 2.4GHz and the 5.8GHz frequencies. This means that the technology connects to the strongest or the available connection.

The drone also comes with new propellers (9455S), which as you will see in DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2 review, it reduces the noise by more than 40 percent. This means that you can fly this drone indoors comfortably, if you have the space. These new propellers can also be used on the older Phantom 4 Pro but while the noise level is going to drop, it may not be as big a drop as in the Pro V2.0.

The drone is enabled with obstacle sensors that help it to avoid collisions from 4 directions. This is a very safe drone to fly even when you are beginner because it is designed to avoid obstacles. It has vision to fly sideways and backwards.

Another marvelous features in this drone is the camera. Here, Phantom does not disappoint at all. It is a 20 MP with 1-inch sensor that can shoot high quality 4K videos at 60 fps. It can also shoot still photographs at Burst Mode, at 14 fps.

You will get better and more clarified video transmission even over the long range, thanks to the more enhanced OcuSync transmission system. Connecting wirelessly to the Goggles, you will get a flying experience such as you have never had before. One of the things that the goggles do is give you a 360-degree view and an incredible FPV – first person view.

The remote controller is very stylish. It has an inbuilt 5.5-inch LCD display. Although it will cost you more, it is much better because it comes ready to use and removes the hassles of downloading and installing the DJI app on your smartphone.

The battery life offers 30 minutes of flight time, much longer than most of the other drones in the market. The flight range is an impressive 7000 meters and it also has a smart return to home feature that signals it to turn back as soon as the battery approaches the end of its charge.

Mostly, apart from the transmission and the propulsion, all the other features remain as in the DJI Phantom 4 Pro.

Short Summary of Feedback from Existing Owners

I love this drone! Being my first drone, I found it so easy to fly and the crash avoidance system always ensures that my drone remains intact, but I am told this will change once I stop flying in beginner mode. I think this is the best thing I ever bought for myself. Samantha R

This drone takes incredible videos and sharp photos. I usually take it to our camping and beach vacations to shoot videos for my YouTube channel. So far, I have been very impressed. I use two batteries to increase the flight time and I am also planning to buy a third one. Orly K.

Although I have the DJI Phantom 4 Pro, I also bought the 4 Pro V2.0 and one thing I have realized is that the noise level is much lower. I have flown both indoors and I can tell you for sure that the latter is quieter. Blake H.

I love the white color. I think it makes this drone look cool. The metal alloy construction makes this drone a long-lasting option for people susceptible to crashing their drone. Jared W.

Pros of DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0

  • Quieter than its predecessor by about 40 percent
  • Good flight time of 30 minutes
  • Good for beginners as well as advanced pilots
  • Shoots high quality videos and sharp images
  • Long flight range of 7000 meters
  • Image stabilization
  • New video transmission technology

Cons of DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0

  • It is pricey
  • Not really many extra features above the 4 Pro

Who Should Buy DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0?

Mostly, we would recommend the DJI Phantom 4Pro V2.0 for beginner pilots who do not have another drone, or for people who do not have the DJI Phantom 4 Pro. If you would love an advanced drone that you will stay with a long time without the need for upgrading, this is it. You may also buy this drone if you are a professional photographer or videographer, but make sure you buy an extra battery or two for more shooting time.

Conclusion and Recommendation

Frankly, this is one of the best drones in the market. It can be used by professional photographers as well as beginner pilots. It looks very stylish in its white color and the titanium and magnesium alloy construction makes it durable and worth having. High quality videos and photos, many flight modes, long range and long flight time make it worth having for anyone. Note though that the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 does not come with the DJI goggles. You will have to buy those separately, but they are definitely worth it.

Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon Quadcopter Drone Review

Would you like a drone that can capture incredible photos and videos from the air as well as from the ground, thanks to the handheld grip that this drone comes with? Well, your search is over for as you will see in this Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon Quadcopter Drone Review, all your hobbyist drone needs are met here.

Made by Yuneec Electric Aviation, the Q500 4K Typhoon Quadcopter Drone is not really the newest baby on the block. It is more than a year old, but it is still one incredible drone to buy. There are many things to love in this drone, from the all-inclusive controller, to the ability to take good photos. However, you cannot use this drone on professional level. It has been designed specifically for amateur pilots, with a short learning curve and requiring no assemblage.

Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon Quadcopter Drone Features & Technical Details

Build features

It is has been built in the popular quadcopter design with four rotors. It is average in size, measuring only 16.5 inches long and 8 inches high. It weighs a manageable 4 pounds and this makes it easy to carry around. It is also shipped in two boxes, one inside the other. The outer box is a reusable aluminum carry case with a handle for easier transport. The Q500 4K Typhoon comes in quite a basic construction, although its features are designed using advanced technology. It weighs just about 4 pounds and it is 16.5 inches long and 8 inches tall.

Unlike most of the drones that are constructed using carbon fiber or metal, this one is made using high quality and sturdy plastic, which makes it light in weight considering its huge size. This makes it an ideal drone for traveling. It is sturdily built to withstand crashes.

Inside the package you will find two lithium polymer batteries, a charger, a charging cable (good to use in the car), sunshield, a handheld mount, a neck strap and SD card containing tutorial videos. There are four rotors, and another spare set of four. They are easy to mount on the drone.

Camera features

All users agree that this drone packs an impressive camera. For example, for video, you have a variety of resolutions to choose from. The Q500 4K Typhoon camera has a field of view of 115 degrees and shoots 4K high quality videos at 30 frames per second. It can also shoot HD videos at 1920 x 1080P at 120 frames per second. The footages that you shoot with this camera are very clear, with no distortions or warping on the edges. When shooting photos, the 12MP camera does an impressive job taking photos with incredible contrast.

The manufacturer has designed the camera to be detachable from the drone. This is a unique feature because it allows the user to replace the camera with a new one if it accidentally breaks or crashes. In addition, you may also use this drone as a hand-held camera because it is sold with a grip.

Another very important feature is the 3-axis gimbal that stabilizes the camera even when the drone wobbles mid-flight. This ensures that your footage retains high quality even when there has been some instability on the drone’s flight.

Controller

Unlike many drones, which require the user to attach his/her smartphone to the controller, this drone comes with an inbuilt touch-screen from where you can control the drone and stream live videos. You get a First Person View of the drone in flight, just a pilot would see from the cockpit of his plane. The station is very easy to use and it enables the user to adjust the videos resolution, exposure and white balance. The drone is also very responsive to the controls.

Flight modes

This drone is simple to take off, fly and land. It has four flight modes that are easy to use even for total beginners. The ‘follow me’ mode prompts the drone to maintain a steady altitude and follow the person who is holding the controller. The ‘watch me’ mode enables the drone to orbit around the person who is holding the controller, shooting videos and photos from all angles.

The ‘smart’ mode enables the user to control the drone according to the drone’s location with the help of the right stick. The drone is able to respond regardless of the direction it is facing. Lastly, the ‘angle’ mode controls the drone in its usual function.

Lastly, the return home feature enables the drone to turn back and go to the person holding the controller, landing about 13 feet from his position.

Battery, flight time and range

The Q500 4K Typhoon comes with two 5400mAh lithium polymer batteries. Each battery offers about 20-25 minutes of flight time depending on the activities that are being undertaken. The fact that they come in a pair prolongs your total flight time because they give you around 50 minutes of total flight period. The batteries have to be removed from the drone so that they can be recharged and charging takes about 120 minutes. Flight range is 200 meters.

Be assured of high quality video and excellent controls that are very easy to get used to. I love the steady grip handle as well. Jimmy W.

I am a big fan of this drone. I personally feel it makes a great beginner drone for aerial videography and photography. Drone Addict

The Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon drone is excellent for beginners. When I was learning to fly it, I crashed it several times and it came out without a scar. I love its carry case too as I transport it easily. Jaswinder P.

A detachable camera and a handgrip are the most convenient features for me in this drone. I am a photo enthusiast and the ability to shoot nice videos and stills is too good to pass. Jessica R.
