Flywoo Vampire2 HD F7 Drone Review

Flywoo Vampire2 HD F7

For a freestyle-racing drone, the Flywoo Vampire2 HD is a good choice. It looks and performs like a monster. Once you start flying the drone, you will agree that it does not want to do a slow flight at all.
You can buy the Vampire2 HD with the TBS Crossfire receiver at an affordable price. However, for more money, you can get it with a BNF DJI receiver or you can get it with BNF-DJI with Goggles. Whatever package you get, you want to know whether it will be worth the money.

The drone also comes in two versions – the 6S and 4S. One thing that you will notice with either version, which by the way comes in gold or titanium color, is that the hardware is high quality. The inclusion of an integrated DJI air unit as well as the GOKU F405 flight controller makes things interesting.

There is a downside though, one that is common with all racer drones. Therefore, do not be deceived by the low price because you will be required to buy other components such as a 4S or 6S battery and a DJI low latency remote controller, which can cost you hundreds of dollars. Overall, the Vampire2 HD will cost you more than $500 to fly it.

Flywoo Vampire2 HD Features & Technical Details

This is where everything starts. A freestyle performance drone has to be built sturdily, so that it can get through crashes with almost everything intact. To their credit, Flywoo have made this with such considerations in mind, as you will see from the choice of materials to the build and design quality.

Build and design quality

First, this is a lightweight racer quadcopter. Without the battery, it weighs 366 g. when you add the battery; the weight will go to almost 550g.

The frame is made of carbon fiber, which is more resilient but lighter than ABS plastic. However, the other parts protruding from the frame, which include the antenna, 5mm arms, flight controller protectors and camera are made with 3D printed plastic parts. They are therefore light in weight yet resilient enough. As part of the design, this quad packs some nice LED lights that make it fun to fly in low-lit conditions.

The quad has been equipped with brushless NIN 2306.5 1750KV Motors.

Flight Controller

The Flywoo Vampire2 HD comes with an onboard flight controller – GOKU F7 Flight Controller. The work of this small device is to direct the RPM of the motors to either slow down or move faster to increase the speed of the drone. This circuit board is the most important part of a drone.

Some of the best flight controllers include HobbyKing Race, Abuse Mark Naze32 and many others. Actually, there are FCs for almost every type of drone and GOKU F7 is among the best for performance drones. Taulab Sparky is also good for performance drones.

One more important thing about this is that the Bluetooth configuration module has been integrated to the flight controller.

Battery and Flight Time

From this quad, you can get about 6 minutes of high speed flight using a 4S 1300mAh battery. However, you can also use a 6S battery with it. Since the drone is sold without a battery, you can just buy what you need first between the two versions.

The battery straps to the underneath of the drone and the strap is already included for that. It is strong and has a metal buckle for a tight grip on the battery. Even with the rigors of flying a performance quad at crazy speeds, the battery stays secure and intact in its tight grip.

Camera

Check that the package contains the TPU mount for the camera.  This is a titanium mount, high quality and it keeps the camera stable when the drone is flying. At the same time, the camera is protected all round to keep it safe from crashes. This FPV camera will enable you to see where the drone is flying. If you get the package with the FPV goggles, you will have an incredible experience.

The FPV resolution for this camera is 720p at 120fps. With the goggles, this is excellent resolution for your real-time video transmission.

TPU Antenna holder for DJI antenna

Mounting your drone’s antenna in the best position is crucial for signal reception between the drone and your smartphone, remote controller or goggles. This also enhances minimal to zero latency in your drone’s FPV transmission. The Vampire2 HD has nicely positioned antennas for optimum signal reception.

TBS Crossfire Receiver

This receiver is compatible with many micro and mini drones. However, as you can see here, it is also compatible with a racer such as the Vampire2 HD. This lightweight, long-range receiver receives the signals from the controller. It translates them to electric pulses. This is a built-in receiver that receives signals from the stick and then manipulates the drone accordingly.

This drone is not sold with a controller. Therefore, you will need to buy a DJI FPV remote controller separately. This controller communicates with the integrated receiver at minimal latency of about 7ms.

Gemfan 51466 Propeller

For a racing drone, these high quality propellers weigh about 4g each. At a length of 5.1 inches, these props can really whip the air and push the drone forward. You can also buy extra ones because they do not cost that much. The propellers have excellent balance and low vibration. This is what makes them excellent for racers and freestyle drones.

50A BLHELI32 ESC Flight Stack

Flight controllers, control algorithms and guidance systems for autonomous drones are contained in the flight stack. It also contains the estimator, which combines the sensor inputs and then computes things like altitude and distance.

In the flight stack of a drone, you also find the mixer. Its work is to translate commands from the controller. Commands such as turn left/right, go forward or backward and so forth are executed by the mixer.

Short Summary of Feedback from Existing Owners

I bought the1300mAh Lipo 6S battery for his drone. So far, it flies as advertised – It is faster than you can blink!  Harid K.

You will need a DJI FPV low latency remote controller to fly this drone. Luckily, I already had it so I did not have to buy one. Mos J.

Flywoo Vampire2 HD Pros

  • Comes almost ready to fly – Just add the 6S Lipo and the props and you will be ready to fly
  • It is an affordable racing drone – most racers come at a higher price range
  • High quality build with protective plates all around
  • It has performance blades that are cheap to replace
  • High-speed flight performance
  • Good FPV experience with the goggles

Flywoo Vampire2 HD Cons

  • It may require you to buy a DJI controller if you don’t have one

Who Should Buy the Flywoo Vampire2 HD Drone?

Anyone who loves a freestyle drone should get this one. This definitely rules out the first-time drone users. This drone comes almost ready for flight as you just have to add the battery, get a compatible transmitter and calibrate it for flight. If you love crazy speeds, this is the drone to buy.

Conclusion and Recommendations

Before you buy the Flywoo Vampire2 HD drone, you should know a few things. One, you will need a compatible transmitter, the most recommended one being the DJI FPV low latency one. This is going to cost you a good amount of money. Secondly, you will need a battery. If you buy the 6S version of this drone, you will need a 6S Lipo battery. If you get the 4S version, you will need a 4S Lipo battery. Other than those two recommendations, this drone flies at fast speeds so be sure to fly it in an open space without obstacles.
