Tomzon D65 Image

In this Tomzon D65 drone review, we are going to find out its features and technical details, its automatic flight functions, design and build quality and many more things.

We are going to see whether it is worth spending money on, and what kind of user it is best suited for.

As usual, we like to throw a spanner into the works before we can delve into the full review. So, what are some of the negatives that you can expect from this beginner drone?

First, the user manual is so poorly written, which can make it a bit hard for a beginner to get started.

Secondly, getting the 5G connection just right can be quite a bother since the instructions don’t help that much.

Despite those downsides, it is still a good aircraft for a beginner. You can always upgrade to a more advanced one in future.

Keep reading as we explore what the Tomzon D65 is made of:

Tomzon D65 Features & Technical Details

First, when you get the package, it will have the D65 drone, 2 batteries, charging cable for battery, charging cable for remote controller, remote controller, 4 prop guards, 2 spare propellers, a carry case and a user guide/manual.

Design and Build Quality

Starting with the weight of the drone, it weighs 195g, which places it under the threshold required for FAA registration, so you can just put it together and fly it.

This is a foldable quadcopter. Therefore, you can fold it to trim it down to a small and manageable size, which makes it easy to carry when traveling.

The quality of the material used for the hull is quite good. They have used ABS plastic, which is light in weight and resilient at the same time. Therefore, even if the aircraft crashes, the delicate electronic parts are well protected.

Camera Quality

In our reviews, we have severally said that one of the main reasons why people buy drones is because they want an aerial camera. That is why even the lowly priced quadcopters have recently been coming with better cameras.

With the Tomzon D65, you will get a true 4K HD camera, which captures photos and videos with movie quality. The photo resolution is 3840 by 2160P.

You will also get a good FPV experience with 720P quality. For the best effect, the camera can be adjusted vertically over 90° on the remote controller,  which means you do not have to bring the drone home first to do that. The FPV distance is 300 meters.

Battery and Flight Time

The Tomzon D65 comes with two batteries. Each battery is going to give you a flight time of 20 minutes, so you can do a maximum of 40 minutes with both batteries.

These are modular batteries so they charge outside the drone. They are also safe to handle, easy to insert and remove from the quadcopter. Make sure that you only use the provided charging cable for charging the batteries.

Remote Controller

The remote controller comes with a built-in rechargeable battery and its own charging cable. By build, this remote controller is simplistic, has a foldable smartphone holder and is light in weight. It has all the auto functions that you need to control the quadcopter.

Important Functions

To fly a quadcopter without struggling too much, you need some flight functions. Some of them even help you to fly the aircraft in hands-free mode.

Here are the most outstanding of them:

Optical Flow Positioning

This is one of the most important functions that you can ever have in a quadcopter. This one has a bottom camera that is also the optical flow sensor. It locks the drone to a height and keeps it steadily there when hovering. That way, the quality of your images and videos is not distorted.

Gesture Shooting Mode

To start taking videos, just raise your palm for about 3 seconds and the drone instantly recognizes what you want to do. When you raise the victory sign, the drone starts taking photos from a short distance away. You can take some fun selfies with family or with friends.

Circle Mode

In circle mode, the drone will fly around a landmark of your choice capturing footage from all angles. This is yet another option for flying the quadcopter in hands-free mode.

Follow Me Mode

Set the D65 on follow me mode so that it can lock onto you and follow you at a respectable distance wherever you go. All the time that it follows you, it will be taking good footage.

Return to Home

If the drone flies too far such that it loses signal, it will return to home automatically. That way, you never have to be afraid of losing it. If the battery runs low, the quadcopter also returns home automatically.

MV Mode and Image Filter

Open the app and access the music and photo filter. You can add music to your drone videos and then you can share them with friends and family across social media.

The photos that this camera takes are already awesome, but you can make them even more stunning by adding some filter effects.

Short Summary of Feedback from Existing Owners

If for nothing else, you can buy this quadcopter just for the pictures and the videos. You can use the image filter function to enhance the quality of the photos before you share them on social media. Giroud M.

I have used this drone to capture good quality video footage for my YouTube channel. I suggest you use the camera during the day to capture excellent footage. Chris N.

The design of this quadcopter is quite good, foldable and light in weight. While I found the user manual a bit wanting, I think it would be a good starter for a beginner. Jack B.

Since this drone supports SD cards, I suggest you get one before you can use it. A TF card allows you to capture footage at maximum resolution than when you use phone storage. Francis D.

Two batteries, a nice carry case, a rechargeable remote controller … I feel they don’t come any better than this in this price range. This is an excellent quad for a beginner. Philip W.

This is a good quadcopter. However, be warned that it is going to behave poorly in the wind, so only take it out on a calm day. Lorenzo R.

Tomzon D65 Pros

  • Easy to fly for beginners
  • High resolution for photos
  • Sleek foldable design is good for traveling
  • Supports TF card use (up to 64GB) for footage storage

Tomzon D65 Cons

  • The user manual could be better – poor English!
  • Hard to know when it is connected to the satellites

Who Should Buy The Tomzon D65 Drone?

This is a good drone for the money, well designed, foldable and easy to carry because of its light weight. Because of the quality of the camera, anyone can use this quadcopter to capture aerial footage of their outdoor and beach adventures. However, if you are into serious photography, something bigger and more stable would be better. If you are a beginner and you want a feature-rich but affordable quadcopter, get this one and you will not need to upgrade in a hurry.

Conclusion and Recommendation

Before you can fly your Tomzon D65, you will need to consider a few things. One of them is that you have to read or at least try to read the user manual. If not, you can catch a video review online so that you don’t bungle the setting up.

Always fly your drones away from animals and pets. They get spooked easily. Also, flying it across a water body can cause signal and eventual drone loss. Always choose large open spaces.

Lastly, do not fly your quadcopter in the wind, whether it has auto return home function or not. It is very easy to lose it.
