Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon Quadcopter Drone Features & Technical Details

Build features

It is has been built in the popular quadcopter design with four rotors. It is average in size, measuring only 16.5 inches long and 8 inches high. It weighs a manageable 4 pounds and this makes it easy to carry around. It is also shipped in two boxes, one inside the other. The outer box is a reusable aluminum carry case with a handle for easier transport. The Q500 4K Typhoon comes in quite a basic construction, although its features are designed using advanced technology. It weighs just about 4 pounds and it is 16.5 inches long and 8 inches tall.

Unlike most of the drones that are constructed using carbon fiber or metal, this one is made using high quality and sturdy plastic, which makes it light in weight considering its huge size. This makes it an ideal drone for traveling. It is sturdily built to withstand crashes.

Inside the package you will find two lithium polymer batteries, a charger, a charging cable (good to use in the car), sunshield, a handheld mount, a neck strap and SD card containing tutorial videos. There are four rotors, and another spare set of four. They are easy to mount on the drone.

Camera features

All users agree that this drone packs an impressive camera. For example, for video, you have a variety of resolutions to choose from. The Q500 4K Typhoon camera has a field of view of 115 degrees and shoots 4K high quality videos at 30 frames per second. It can also shoot HD videos at 1920 x 1080P at 120 frames per second. The footages that you shoot with this camera are very clear, with no distortions or warping on the edges. When shooting photos, the 12MP camera does an impressive job taking photos with incredible contrast.

The manufacturer has designed the camera to be detachable from the drone. This is a unique feature because it allows the user to replace the camera with a new one if it accidentally breaks or crashes. In addition, you may also use this drone as a hand-held camera because it is sold with a grip.

Another very important feature is the 3-axis gimbal that stabilizes the camera even when the drone wobbles mid-flight. This ensures that your footage retains high quality even when there has been some instability on the drone’s flight.

Controller

Unlike many drones, which require the user to attach his/her smartphone to the controller, this drone comes with an inbuilt touch-screen from where you can control the drone and stream live videos. You get a First Person View of the drone in flight, just a pilot would see from the cockpit of his plane. The station is very easy to use and it enables the user to adjust the videos resolution, exposure and white balance. The drone is also very responsive to the controls.

Flight modes

This drone is simple to take off, fly and land. It has four flight modes that are easy to use even for total beginners. The ‘follow me’ mode prompts the drone to maintain a steady altitude and follow the person who is holding the controller. The ‘watch me’ mode enables the drone to orbit around the person who is holding the controller, shooting videos and photos from all angles.

The ‘smart’ mode enables the user to control the drone according to the drone’s location with the help of the right stick. The drone is able to respond regardless of the direction it is facing. Lastly, the ‘angle’ mode controls the drone in its usual function.

Lastly, the return home feature enables the drone to turn back and go to the person holding the controller, landing about 13 feet from his position.

Battery, flight time and range

The Q500 4K Typhoon comes with two 5400mAh lithium polymer batteries. Each battery offers about 20-25 minutes of flight time depending on the activities that are being undertaken. The fact that they come in a pair prolongs your total flight time because they give you around 50 minutes of total flight period. The batteries have to be removed from the drone so that they can be recharged and charging takes about 120 minutes. Flight range is 200 meters.
