KK13 Dragonfly Review

KK13 Dragonfly

Despite the KK13 Dragonfly drone having an excellent foldable design, durable build and coming with many features, some small flaws do water down its awesomeness.

The first flaw is in the camera. It has a jello effect. It also has a slight shakiness and therefore, to a practiced eye, the photos will appear distorted.

The second flaw is that this drone is unstable even in the lowest velocity winds. Once again, this will affect the quality of your footage.

Does this mean it is not a great drone?

Far from it! Never will you have a drone that is 100 percent perfect. Therefore, this Anafi drone lookalike comes highly recommended by many advanced pilots. You can live with the flaws that it comes with.

Keep reading for in the upcoming sections, we are going to outline the features of the quadcopter, the design and build quality, flight functions, the pros and cons.

KK13 Dragonfly Features & Technical Details

Never buy a drone blindly. You want to know the features, technical details, flight functions and many more about. Here is where we elaborate all of them.

Design and Build Quality

The first thing that you will notice is that this is not a huge drone. Even when it is unfolded and ready for flight, it measures 10.2 by 9.2 by 4.4 inches. When you fold it up, it becomes much smaller and more manageable to pack for traveling or for storage.

The weight of this quadcopter is 350g minus the battery. Therefore, when you add the battery, the weight goes up some more. Therefore, if you are in North America, you should first register it with the FAA. It is a short process, very cheap and you do it online.

The color of the drone is black. You can check whether it comes in other colors. The hull material is ABS plastic, which is light but strong.

Camera Quality

This is where the KK13 drone parts ways with the Anafi drone. This is a hobby camera, and we did mention a certain flaw to it. However, professional photographers use the Anafi camera.

The Dragonfly comes with a 4K HD camera. It is a true 4K camera because it does take 3840*2160 images, but only when you are using an SD card to store your footage. If you are storing them in the phone storage, the highest resolution that you can get is 2592*1520.

The video resolution that you can get with when you have an SD card for storage is 2592*1920 at 25 frames per second. For your first person view/real time video transmission, you get 720P resolution, which is quite good and the norm with many quads.

The FPV range is 700 meters.

Battery and Flight Time

You will get a high capacity battery – 7.6V 3000mAh with the drone. This is going to give you an impressive flight time of 25 minutes. This is quite good, but everything has a flipside and for this long flight time, you also get a long charging time of up to 6 hours. However, you can order a second battery if you like.

Remote Controller

The first thing that you will love about this controller is that it has a built-in battery with a 350mAh capacity. At full charge, this can run for five hours. Therefore, even if you get three drone batteries, you will be able to fly through all of them with one charge.

Apart from that, the build is quite good, and the sticks are quite responsive. The connectivity range is 1200 meters.

Flight Features and Functions

The KK13 Dragonfly quadcopter has many flight functions. Therefore, it is easy to fly for both beginners and advanced users. Here are some of them:

Optical Flow Positioning

Optical flow positioning enhances precision when the drone is hovering and flight. You need your drone to have accurate hover so that you can take good photos and videos.

GPS return

This one helps in many things. One of them is that on the app, you will always see where the drone is. At the same time, it makes things such as fail-safe return possible.

The drone connects to the GPS module in your smartphone. If you press the return to home key, it comes back. If it loses signal with the remote controller and with the app, it comes back home automatically.

No system is foolproof. Therefore, in case the drone gets lost, you can still recover it. Just tap the GPS button three times and the last position of the drone will be displayed.

GPS smart image follow

With this function, the drone locks to you and it follows you automatically. In other words, we can say that the drone recognizes you.

Trajectory flight

Open the map on the app and draw the flight route that you would like the drone to follow. That way, you can concentrate on taking videos and photos while the drone follows the set flight path.

Circle mode

Get the drone in circle mode if you would like it to take photos of a certain object from all angles. This is another way of flying it in hands-free mode while you concentrate on shooting videos and photos.

Flight Modes

These are up, down, backward, forward, left and right modes. The drone is very responsive too, with minimal latency.

One button take off and landing

Just press this button and the drone either takes off to a certain height or comes back and hovers at a height.

Gesture Control

You can take images and video using your hand (open Palm to take video victory sign to take images).

Short Summary of Feedback from Existing Users

I bought this drone because of the camera. I cannot say the footage is stunning but for this price, it is definitely good. Roman K.

I have not flown my drone yet despite getting it a week ago. I am worried because I have read some complaints from users saying the drone is not stable. Is this true? Justin H.

My battery gives me roughly 23 minutes of flight time. I hope to buy a second battery so that I can fly this drone some more. I love how it flies. Amy W.

The KK13 has simply refused to be compatible with any SD card. In this case, I find it hard to take 4K footage. I hope I can get a card that works. Anyone who wishes to help me? Rajna A.

Whatever you do, make sure there isn’t even minimal wind when you are flying the drone. It is unstable in even the lowest velocity winds. Jervi H.

Nice packaging, nice flight time and controller has a built-in battery. I have only flown it twice but I intend to take it to an open land a few miles away and fly it to full FPV range. Samuel M.

Who Should Buy The KK13 Dragonfly Drone?

This is a good drone for grownups, children and beginner pilots. It has many automatic functions and it is easy to fly. It can make a good gift for a person that you truly value. The packaging is nice and shipping takes place fast in many countries. The features and functions that it comes with justify the price and the performance is good if there is no wind.

Conclusion and Recommendation

One of the things that this KK13 Dragonfly review has established is poor performance in windy conditions. Therefore, choose a calm day in which to fly it. Another thing that you need to do is to find a compatible memory card so that you can shoot footage in 4K resolution. Read the user manual to know how to calibrate the quad for flight and lastly, order one more battery for a longer flight time.
