Tomzon D25 Drone Review

Tomzon D25

Do you want a small, lightweight and affordable drone that performs pretty well in gusty conditions? You ought to try the Tomzon D25. However, this does not mean that you take this drone right out in high velocity winds. It means that it can fly just fine in a breeze, without danger of losing it.

This is a small quadcopter with many good things going for it. It has excellent flight performance. On the same note, it has some misgivings too. For example, some users complain about the video and photo quality. Some have even had issues with the drone failing to respond to return to home commands, but such cases are rare and few in between.

The price is affordable, but if you know toy-class quadcopters, you will agree that features are more important than the price. Keep reading to see the features that the D25 comes with.

Tomzon D25

Tomzon D25 Features & Technical Details

The D25 comes with many features and flight functions that most quadcopters in its price range come with.

It is almost comparable to the Dragon Touch DF01 that we reviewed earlier. Here, we will look at the design and build quality, the camera, transmitter, battery and its flight functions.

Design and Build Quality

This is a small drone, actually qualifies to be called a mini drone. By design, it is foldable, which makes it small enough to pop into your pocket when you are going out of the house. It measures 9.1 by 9.1 by 2.2 inches when it is unfolded. When you fold it, the size reduces to 4.9 by 3.5 by 2.2 inches.

The weight of the drone is 120g. Therefore, you don’t have to register it with the FAA before you can fly it in the USA. You may check the requirements for flying a drone if you are from another country. On the bright side though, such weight helps in keeping the drone stable in a breeze.

The D25 comes with brushless motors. They are a bit loud, but they last a long time without the need for maintenance.

The fuselage of the quadcopter is made with strong but lightweight ABS plastic. The plastic parts are resilient, they don’t crack easily and the electronic parts of your aircraft are well protected, even during a crash.

Battery and Flight Time

This mini drone comes with two batteries. They are 3.7V 1100mAH Batteries. Combined, they will give you a flight time of 24 minutes.

These are modular batteries, so they charge out of the drone. Therefore, you can fly the quad with one as the second one charges. They are also safe to handle, and so you need not worry about the safety of your children when they are using the aircraft.

The batteries are also easy to insert and remove from the drone. You can find out whether you can buy a third battery to make the flight time even longer.

We could not find the charging time for the batteries. However, for low capacity batteries, the charging time is usually 90 to 120 minutes.

Use the provided cable to charge the batteries.

Camera Quality

This small aircraft is equipped with a 4K camera that can take 4096 by 2160P photos and videos. It is going to capture decent videos and photographs when you use it in bright weather and when there is no wind at all.

The camera can be adjusted vertically by 90°, but you can only do that manually by bringing the drone home. There is a second, small camera on the belly that serves as the optical flow sensor. Unless you are looking for an amateur or professional aerial camera, this one should serve your needs just fine.

Using your smartphone attached to the remote controller, you will enjoy a good first person view experience. Again, there is scanty information regarding the FPV distance.

Remote Controller

The transmitter looks too simplistic in design and you will not see a clutter of keys on the body. It is also light in weight and therefore you should not have any trouble using it through an entire two batteries. The foldable smartphone holder can fit smartphones of different sizes.

However, as simple as it looks, it has all the keys that you need to fly the drone. When you are flying this quadcopter blindly, it will always be under your control, but make sure you do not fly it in strong winds.

You will have to buy disposable batteries to use with the remote controller.

Flight Functions

Because this quadcopter is targeted at beginners and kids that are 14 years and older, it comes with so many automatic flight functions. We shall look at the most outstanding of them here:

Optical Flow Positioning

With optical flow positioning, you will get the Tomzon D25 to hover steadily at a locked height so that you can take good quality footage. In addition, the flight of the quadcopter is also very stable, thanks to this function.

Gesture Shooting

If you want the D25 to take gesture footage, just show it the palm sign and it will start to capture videos. To start taking photos, just show it the victory sign. This function is going to help you take important footage in hands-free mode.

Picture Beautify Filters

You not only get the camera to take good quality photos, but you also get to use the Beautify filter to make the vivid details even more outstanding. When you see footage with and without a filter, you will definitely see a big difference.

3D Flips

What is a quadcopter that cannot perform any kinds of stunts? The D25 can do 3D flips, meaning it can flip backwards, forwards, left and even right. However, to do that, you will need to push it to high speed.

Speed Settings

The aircraft has been equipped with low and high speeds. If you are a beginner, take the aircraft to a large open space and start with the low speed setting. Later, after gaining some experience, you can hit the high speed setting.

Altitude Hold Mode

As a beginner’s drone, the D25 has altitude hold mode. This means that you can get it to hold a certain height when it is in flight or when hovering so that you just worry about the horizontal flight.

Route Planning

You can access the map interface on the app so that you can draw a route that you would love the quadcopter to follow when you launch it. Choose a good route where the quadcopter can capture nice footage.

Short Summary of Feedback from Existing Owners

Since I bought my son the Tomzon D25 for his 15th birthday, he has been having a lot of fun. He also uses it to take family photos from time to time. The only downside is that indoor photos are not perfect. Tony H.

This drone is quite a good flier! I love its flight performance and I am going to keep it longer than I thought I would. I wish the batteries would last longer because I have never been able to get more than 10 minutes Glen T.

This aircraft is small, light in weight and affordable. However, it comes with so many flight functions and my favorite one is gesture photos and videos. Mike P.

If you are an experienced drone user, you may want to pass this one for something else. It is too light in the wind and the vertical angle of the camera is not adjustable from the remote controller. Ken R.

The photo Beautify Filter is quite something. I have tried it and it improves the quality of the photos in a big way. Abe M.

Once you build your skill, you will want to try something bigger and more advanced. Conclusion and Recommendation

When you buy the Tomzon D25 4K HD drone, you need to consider a few things. First, read the user manual especially if this is the first quadcopter that you have ever owned. Secondly, you need to fly it in a large open space so that it does not crash into things. Avoid flying it near large water bodies for its safety as well as for preventing signal loss. Lastly, fly it on low speed setting at first and then switch to higher speed when you have learned how it flies.
